Paper Pieced Mariner's Compass

Mennonite and Amish Colour Studies

Antique Mennonite and Amish quilts have long been admired for their unique use of colour. We will be studying the history and characteristics of these quilts. As well we will do a short study of color and learn how to creat colour effects such as sparkle, transparency, shadow, and light source within a block or quilt. All levels. One day.

Quilting Techniques from the 1930's

We will make some typical blocks and do an in depth study of quilts from this period. Topics covered will include: background and influences, fabrics, colours used, favourite patterns, designers, and techniques such as blanket stitch appliqué. All levels. One day.

Flannel Fun

Enjoy making an easy, scrappy quilt using cosy flannel fabrics. This is a great quilt for cool winter evenings or for taking to the cottage.

Eight Pointed Star Designs

We will take the mystery out of sewing these lovely quilt patterns. Learn set-in seam construction and dot to dot sewing to construct these blocks accurately and easily. Some previous piecing experience required. More Biblical Quilt Blocks book required. One or several days depending on how many stars you want to learn.

Make whatever block you want in any size. You'll never have to wonder if the pattern is accurate again because you'll know how to draft it and check it for accuracy yourself. No sewing. All levels. Half or full day depending on how many blocks you wish to learn to draft.

Machine Quilting

Learn the basics of machine quilting techniques such as types of thread, battings, and marking pencils, special tools and attachments to make machine quilting easier. Practice techniques such as free motion, continuous designs, stippling, and many kinds of background quilting. All levels. One day.

Advanced Machine Quilting

Build on your machine quilting skills by learning to do a beautiful feather pattern in trapunto or padded quilting. Experiment with various techniques for using many different kinds of decorative threads. One day.

Christmas Star or Summer Star

Stitch this exquisite country quilt with easy and quick sewing and cutting techniques. All levels. One day. Pattern required.

Other information

Workshops have been planned for a full day or 6 hours. When flexible hours are indicated the longer workshop will include more techniques and more help with your hands-on stitching. Whenever possible, the workshops will be customized to fit the needs and interests of your group. Some workshops can be expanded to accommodate a retreat situation and some can be reduced to a demonstration or half day format when required.
